The carnivore diet is a diet that consists only of meat. The idea originated from the paleo diet and has become popular in recent years due to its simplicity and efficiency. You might be wondering how this type of diet works, what kinds of foods you can or should eat while on it, how it compares to a meat and fruit diet and whether or not it's safe for you to try. Let's take a closer look! What is the carnivore diet? The carnivore diet is a zero carb diet, meaning that you can eat only animal foods. It has become popular among people with autoimmune and metabolic issues, who have found that the carnivore diet helps them reduce inflammation in their bodies. What Is the Meat & Fruit Diet? Many people on carnivore find they get issues with a meat only diet. They may have trouble sleeping, reduced performance in the gym and/or electrolyte issues and cramping. To fix these issues, many people opt to include some small amounts of carbohydrates in their diet via foods we know nature actually want us to eat so don't have many toxic anti nutrients in them... fruit. LEARN MORE: WHAT HUMANS EVOLVED TO EAT Is the carnivore diet safe? The carnivore diet is safe for most people, but it does have some risks. A doctor or nutritionist should be consulted before starting the carnivore diet if you:
Most people get the keto flu when starting due to the lack of carbohydrates. Some people also get some digestive issues that resolve over time. LEARN MORE: SIDE EFFECTS OF THE CARNIVORE DIET How can I get started on the carnivore diet? The first step to the carnivore diet is to cut out all plant foods, and eat only meat, water and salt. This might seem scary if you haven't eaten this way before. If you have no auto-immune issues, instead of starting with nothing but meat and water, start with meat and water along with some eggs (the yolk is fine) and dairy products like cheese or yogurt. Seafood can be added in at a later time as well. Maintaining electrolytes is important on any diet because they help regulate your body's fluid balance. Without them, you'll feel tired all the time - so make sure to get enough sodium! LEARN MORE: GETTING STARTED ON THE CARNIVORE DIET CAN YOU ADD FRUIT TO A CARNIVORE DIET? One of the most common questions people have about the carnivore diet is if they can add fruit. The short answer is no. If you choose to add fruit, then you're on an animal based diet, not a carnivore diet. But there's also nothing wrong with that. Being on a carnivore diet because you get to say "you're a carnivore" is a dumb reason to be on a diet. You should choose what you eat based on the problems you're trying to solve and what makes you feel good, not the label. Does a meat and fruit only diet have any benefits? There are several possible benefits of the meat and fruit diet: Fruits contain many anti-nutrients that may be beneficial in small amounts. These include polyphenols, which have antioxidant properties. Polyphenols act as antioxidants and help reduce the oxidative damage caused by free radicals in the body and possibly prevent inflammation. Polyphenols from fruits may also play a role in reducing chronic inflammation via their anti-inflammatory properties. Fruits also contain plant lectins, which are a type of carbohydrate that can bind to certain proteins or cell membranes. Lectins are known for their ability to modulate immune function and defend against pathogens by acting a antimicrobial agents against harmful microorganisms. Studies show that eating more fruits helps lower blood pressure levels, which is an important risk factor for heart disease. Fruit helps you get more vitamin C. Vitamin C is one of the most important nutrients for optimal health because it plays an important role in immune function, wound healing, and tissue repair among other things. How to Start a meat and fruit diet? Once you've decided to take the plunge and try the meat and fruit diet, here are some tips for making sure your body gets what it needs.
Are there any side effects of eating only meat and fruit? You might feel a little hungry. If you're used to eating meat only, your body likely won't be used to consuming any kind of carbohydrate and you may have lost the metabolic flexibility to do so. While you may feel hungry at first, once you've regained the metabolic flexibility to dgiest and utilise these carbohydrates, feelings of hunger will likely subside. Your blood sugar may spike and stay high. A blood sugar spike after food is natural. You'll likely get that from a high protein meal too. These spikes help to regulate your electrolyte levels. When you eat carbohydrates or fiber (which is found in whole fruits), they break down into glucose (a type of sugar) that enters your bloodstream slowly over time. However, when these foods are absent from the diet for weeks at a time, there's no way for the body's insulin levels to stay stable—and the result is that blood sugar levels shoot up rapidly after each meal until an equilibrium is reached again between carbohydrate intake and insulin production by cells throughout your body. Fruits to Include Most locally sourced, in season fruits are a great option. Of course, the fruits you choose will depend on what is available to you and it's recommended to only choose fruits found locally. Options might include:
Fruits to Avoid Do not eat fruits that are out of season. Avoid dried fruits and high sugar desserts. This includes fruit preservatives like ascorbic acid, sodium citrate, and potassium sorbate. These can make you feel bloated and cause acne breakouts on your face (note: ascorbic acid is also found in some multivitamins). Cherries may irritate the stomach or throat due to their high tannin content; if you have a sensitive digestive system this may be best avoided altogether until you heal it. Raspberries, elderberries, black currants are all high in oxalates which can cause kidney stones in susceptible individuals; this is especially true for those who suffer from gout or rheumatoid arthritis since these diseases involve inflammation of joints caused by excessive uric acid levels in the body. Conclusion The carnivore diet is a controversial one, but it can be a great way to lose weight and switch up your eating habits if you’re tired of the same old thing. If you're interested in trying out this new lifestyle for yourself, make sure that you do plenty of research before actually starting on it. Make sure there are no side effects from switching over completely from plant-based foods, then pick out some delicious recipes!

Ascorbic Acid is Vitamin C…. Which is why it is in multivitamins. I don’t think your intention is to have people avoiding vitamin C so just a friendly fyi.
