Pre heat your oven: 500°F or 260°C
Put the skillet inside the oven to preheat.
These instructions are for a thick-cut steak cooked medium rare.
If your steak thinner than an inch or you want a rarer finish, cook for less time.

- If you want to add a rub to your steak (e.g. salt and pepper), do so in advance before you begin cooking.
- Once the skillet and oven are hot, pull the oven rack out, and add your stick of butter to the skillet to melt.
- Carefully place your steak into the skillet using tongs.
- Push the rack back in and close the oven door.
- After 2.5 minutes of cooking, flip the steak, and cook another 2.5 minutes.
